Kings of the North and South: Wars and Persecution

Daniel 11:2-35

11
Chapter 11
2 And now I will tell you the truth. Behold—three more kings will stand up for Persia, and the fourth will acquire wealth greater than all. And by his strength through his wealth he will stir up all against the kingdom of Greece. 3 And a mighty king will stand up and rule with great power and do according to his will. 4 And when it stands, its kingdom will be broken and divided toward the four winds of the heavens, and not to its latter end and not like its dominion which it ruled, for its kingdom will be uprooted to others apart from these. 5 And the king of the Negev grew strong, and one of his princes grew strong over him and ruled; his rule was greater than that of his predecessor. 6 And at the end of years they will ally, and the daughter of the king of the South will come to the king of the North to make right dealings, but she will not retain the power of the arm. Nor will he stand, nor his seed. And she will be given up, along with her bringers and the one she bore and her strengthenings in those times. 7 And a preserving one will stand, a root of her. He established, and he came to the power, and he came in the stronghold of the king of the north, and he acted in them and he strengthened. 8 He will also bring their gods, along with their drink offerings and their desirable possessions—silver and gold—into captivity in Egypt, and he will stand years against the king of the north. 9 And he came into the kingdom of the king of the Negev and returned to his ground. 10 His sons will stir themselves up and gather a multitude of great forces and come and overflow and pass through, and he will return and stir himself up against his stronghold. 11 And the king of the south was bitterly enraged and went out and fought against him, even with the army of the king of the north. And he stationed a great multitude, but the multitude was given into his hand. 12 And when he had carried off the multitude, his heart was exalted, and he cast down myriads, but he would not prevail. 13 The king of the North will return, and he will station a multitude greater than the former one. At the end of the times of years he will come, coming in great power and great property. 14 In those times many will stand against the king of the south, and sons of the violent ones of your people will lift themselves up to establish the vision, but they will stumble. 15 The king of the north came and poured out a siege ramp and captured a fortress city, and the outstretched arms of the south will not stand, even his covenant people of divine election, and there is no strength to stand. 16 And the one who comes to him does according to his favor, and there is no standing before his face, and he stands in the land of the Glory, and the Bride in his hand. 17 And he set his face to come with the strength of all his kingdom, and he straightened with him, and he made a daughter of women he will give to him to destroy her, and she will not stand and to him she will not be. 18 And he set his face to islands and captured many, and a leader caused his reproach to cease for him without his reproach—he will return it to him. 19 And he turned his face to the strongholds of his earth and stumbled and fell, and he will not be found. 20 One who causes an exactor of the splendor of the kingdom to pass over his base will stand, and in a few days he will be broken, neither in anger nor in warfare. 21 And he stood upon his throne—a despised one—and they did not give him the splendor of the kingdom, and he came in peace and strengthened the kingdom in flattery. 22 And the seeds of the flood will sweep them away from before him and will be broken, and also a prince of the covenant. 23 And from the allying to him he will do deceit, and he will ascend and he will be strong with few of a nation. 24 In security and in precious oils of the province he will come and do what his fathers did not do and the fathers of his fathers—in plundering and spoil and property he will scatter to them—and upon fortresses he will devise his devisings and until a time. 25 He aroused his strength and his heart against the king of the Negev with a great army, and the king of the Negev will stir himself up for warfare with a great and very mighty army; but he will not stand, for they will devise plans against him. 26 Those who eat his bread in his midst will break him, and his army will sweep away, and many slain will fall. 27 And both of them—the kings—their hearts set on evil, and at one table they will speak deceit, but it will not prosper, for still an end awaits the appointed time. 28 And he returned to his land with great wealth, and his heart against the holy covenant, and he acted and returned to his land. 29 At the appointed time he will return and come to the south, but it will not be like the first or like the last. 30 And ships of Kittim came against him, and he was disheartened and turned back and raged against the holy covenant and acted and turned back and built against the forsakers of the holy covenant. 31 And seeds from him will arise, and they will profane the sanctuary, the stronghold, and they will remove the continual, and they will set up the abomination that desolates. 32 And the wicked ones of the covenant will profane it in hypocrisies, and the people knowing their God will strengthen themselves and do. 33 And the maskilim of the people will cause many to understand, and they will stumble by sword and by flame, in captivity and in spoil, for days. 34 And in their stumbling they will help a little help, and many will join to them in slipperiness. 35 And some of the maskilim will stumble to refine among them and to purify and to whiten until the time of the end, for it is still for the appointed time.
